Amy spent most of her early years helping her parents with their businesses. She has two sisters. She attended Career Connections Charter High School. From her earliest years, she has always been interested in sporting activities and other activities. This helped her in the years following when she made the decision to link her professional career with sports. Amy graduated in 1998 from Grove City Area High school and attended Nova Southeastern University for her BS degree in elementary education. Although she was a fan in sports, she's been captivated by her love for children, and a desire to work with them thus she decided to become a school teacher. Amy earned her ME in Special Education at Waynesburg University in 2002. Her focus was on working with children who suffer from autism spectrum disorders, as well as other neurological conditions.
